West Springfield is in the middle of a stretch, as most teams are now, that would make the most fit NBA player crash from exhaustion- 7 games in 11 days. Wednesday night’s contest with West Potomac would prove to be a tough test. West Springfield jumped out to a 7 point lead at the half, but West Potomac would not go away, cutting it to a 3 point game going into the 4th quarter. But, the Spartans held on and got a huge night from a Senior leader to put the game away 57-53.
West Potomac got 13 points from Senior, Tenesha Green and 15 points from Sophomore, Natalie Terwilliger with 15 points.
The Spartans, missing their star-guard, Shelby Haynes, leaned on Junior, Emma Sharman with 10 points and Freshman, Molly Sharman, with 14 points. Thankfully though, most of the leaning was shouldered by the brilliant play of Senior, Haley Blankinship. She put in 26 points on Tuesday against Woodson, so what could she possibly do to top that….. Oh yeah, all she did was drop 29 points on West Potomac to get the win. Blankinship is averaging 20 points per game in February and is shooting 84% from the free throw line on the year (Note to coaches: Don’t foul her!).
Next up, West Springfield faces Lake Braddock on Feb. 12th.
